My Review of Golden Pond

Okay community, not the right fit for us.

Not a corporate environment - A more personal and homey feel

Overall, I've been very satisfied with the care and the facilities. The staff is wonderful. There's one caregiver in particular who is always cheerful when she comes in, she gives compliments, and she knows the little things. She really paid attention to some of the décor in my loved one's apartment and related, "Oh, I have this pattern." She does extra little steps, like one time she took the laundry basket from me and finished up folding the last little bit of laundry. The staff just love my dad in general. He's super sweet and always smiling. The apartment is really nice. It's larger and feels more like an apartment than other facilities I looked at. Others felt like hotel rooms - nice hotel rooms, but hotel rooms nevertheless. There's full-sized appliances here, and the kitchen isn't a galley kitchen. The living room is a good size, and so is the bedroom, with a walk-in closet. As far as the dining services, they haven't opened it up again yet to all meals being served in the dining room. They're still delivering the evening meals. When I asked them about it, since we're paying for that dining service, they said that not everyone is wanting to go back to the dining room, so they decided to serve breakfast and lunch in the dining room, and deliver dinner to the apartments. I wish they would reconsider that decision since that's part of the experience. As far as activities, my loved one is not a crafty guy or a bingo guy, so the only thing he participates in are the fitness activities. I can pay extra to have him escorted down there. Originally they would ask him, "Do you want to go to ___". He would always say no. But I've finally gotten them to pose it as "Let's go. It's time to go to ___" And he's been going with them more them that way. It's always going to be a challenge anywhere you are with communication, and them understanding everybody's individual needs. I think he's not far from needing memory care, and I'm not sure if I'll keep him there when the time comes, just because it's pricey. As long as I can find a place where I feel he is safe and well cared for, I would consider moving him to memory care that is more affordable. I had to make the decision to move him here within a matter of days, and one of the main reasons I chose Golden Pond is it's really convenient to where I live.
