We could not see the people that live here at this community and wanted to be able to see how things were at the community. This place was great just could not see the interactions like we wanted to.

LOVE the Chelsea at Toms River

reviewed on: 02/10/2020 by Anonymous

I had my Mother at the Chelsea at Toms River for 2 years before she passed away and she loved it! I chose the Chelsea because of the great reputation they have around the community. When I went in for my first initial tour, I was so impressed with how clean the building was and how friendly the staff was. All of the staff that I met came up to me to introduce themselves. On the tour, even the residents were coming up to me to introduce themselves and tell me about why they liked the Chelsea. We loved that the Chelsea has restaurant style dining so it feels like Mom is at a restaurant everyday and the family enjoyed eating the food as well. If I had to do it all over again, the Chelsea is what we would pick! Thank you so much to all of the Chelsea staff and residents for making Mom's last few years memorable.

Highly Recommend

My mother has been in here for 3 years. Staff is very caring and accommodating. Facility is clean and modern. Mom feels at home with all the friends she's made during her stay. She also loves the outdoor spaces, as they are kept beautifully. This was the best decision our family could make for her.

A Home Away From Home

reviewed on: 02/10/2020 by M. Hertzberg

I can't say enough about the The Chelsea of Toms River! My mother was 98 when she moved there in October of 2018, quite set in her ways and struggling with losing her eyesight. She always said that she didn't want to move in "with those old people" but as it turned out, she was one of the oldest residents there! It was a difficult decision for her, since she was always so independent, but she knew she couldn't be alone at home much longer and was starting to get lonely. I was so happy that when she moved in, it wasn't what she imagined. Within a couple of weeks, she had made new friends, was walking better--because she was walking MORE (back and forth from her room to the dining room for meals), and she was learning how to play cards. These days she's slowing down a bit more, since she turned 100--but the Wellness Staff is able to adjust with her changing needs, and the Dining Staff are so patient with her when she can't quite read the menu. I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for a "home away from home" because the staff really are like family to my mother.

My honest overview...

My mom was a resident for a year and a half. It was great until she had surgery and needed assistance after it. They give you a false sense of security with the assistance button they place around your neck. Response time can be upward of well over an hour...that's if someone shows up...sometimes we went looking for them to find them downstairs on their cell phones. The director did his best (he's since left) but unfortunately they do not have the staff to care for the residents. The turnover of staff I would guess is monthly which explains the sign in front of the facility for weekly employment interviews. It's a very nice place and there is plenty for your loved one to do. The food is terrible. For me, my mother's health and well being was our top priority and we no longer felt comfortable or confident in their ability to care for her. The director of nursing was thrown into the position and in our opinion is not qualified for the job and was one of the deciding factors of us moving mom.
