Caring and Compassionate Facility

reviewed on: 09/03/2021 by Debora Lynn Doney

I moved my 89 yr old mother to Alexander House on May 12th, 2021. She had Advanced Vascular Dementia and needed Memory Care. It was a wonderful decision. The staff was caring and responsive. They took wonderful care of her and that was not an easy undertaking at times. The staff on both sides Assisted Living and Memory Care were the best. They were all wonderful to my Mom and the nurses were just A+. All the staff rocked and helped make the move very smooth. My mom celebrated her 90th birthday on [date removed]1. It was a great day. Her health deteriorated. I made the decision to start hospice at the end of July. The staff was supportive and kind, they were with me 1000% in the coming weeks. My mother was clean and comfortable. She passed on[date removed]. Everything was handled so compassionately. Throughout her stay the staff always kept me informed and took wonderful care of my Mother. I dont think you can get much better. If I could I would give them way more than 5 stars..

We like it!

The community was fine. The staff was good and they were helpful. My father in law just kept saying that the food was not good. However, everything else like the community being clean and my father in laws room is good.

Very nice community.

While looking for an Assisted Living community in Oak Ridge,Tn I stopped at the Alexander Guest House. When I walked in the front door I had to ask some one if this was really an Assisted Living facility because it is not like any I have seen. It is very homey and looks like a nice hotel, which it used to be. I was given a tour of both assisted living and memory care, both are equally beautiful. I was impressed during my tour how the employees that I saw stopped and spoke to me. I spoke to a few residents who had only nice things to say about Alexander Guest House. Also, I was given a menu and an activity calendar and both looked great. I was told that the community is all inclusive in their prices and was pleasantly surprised that they were very affordable, actually their prices were lower than a lot of other assisted livings. I now just have to decide what size room I would like.

So many benefits

I just can't say enough nice things about Alexander Guest House Assisted Living. This is the second place Mom has lived in and the first was a very difficult experience in many ways for both of us even though Mom was excited to have her own "apartment". Mom has been at Alexander Guest House since November 2015 and it has exceeded all of our expectations. The all inclusive pricing is so convenient - we always know what the bill will be with no surprises. It is a good deal less expensive than the first place. I kept waiting for some kind of "gotcha!" but it has never come. The rooms and grounds are beautiful and it always smells nice. Mom really loves the staff and they are wonderful - always helpful and responsive and going the extra mile on a consistent basis. Phone calls are returned in a timely manner and they never make Mom or me feel that something is too much trouble. Even though Mom has rarely engaged in the many activities they offer, they still continue to invite her to each one personally. In my eyes, that just shows so much caring. I had a pretty bad case of caregiver burnout when Mom first moved in but the staff were very patient with me and my concerns and questions as well. They are there for the families as well as the residents. I highly recommend this as a caring, well run residence for elder loved ones. I no longer have any trouble sleeping at night worrying if Mom is ok.

Mom is so happy

We moved my Mom from another Assisted Living about three months ago. We could not be more pleased with the change. My Mom is enjoying the programs, and loves the food. She has not needed a lot of extra help but they are always willing. Her room is always clean and she is proud to show it off. We thought it would be a challenge for her to leave her friends at the other location but it hasn't been and they are now joining her for meals here. I wished we had found this place two years ago and we would have just come here first.
