My visit at Amica at Aspen Woods
reviewed on: 04/30/2015 by SelenaOverall, I thought this community was great! I would give it 5 stars for every rating but value. The cost of the community is kind of high. But, for the most part, I really enjoyed this community.
Beware!
reviewed on: 02/10/2018 by AnonymousMy Father-in-law has been a resident at Amica for the past 4 years or so. He has had many unfortunate experiences here, but the most recent has increased my concern for the lack of medical knowledge the medical staff has. My dad is on the Independent floor, and is now transitioning to an assisted facility due to his declining health. Thursday night there was a power outage - my dad is on oxygen powered by electricity. The power was out for 1 hour, and his machine does not reset automatically. This happened during the night, so he slept through this, and had been without oxygen for 3ish hours by the time he awoke; of course in distress by this point. No staff came to wake him during the outage - he could easily have transitioned to a portable tank, and all would be well. I called Amica and left 3 messages for the Client Care Manager yesterday - none returned. I called again this AM, and he was off for the weekend, but did call me from home. He said he had reviewed what happened with the LPN on staff and she did realize, after, that she had forgotten to check my dad, BUT STILL DIDN'T GO AND CHECK ON HIM!! Actually, it has now been 33 hours since the outage and NOT ONE staff has checked on him. The desk clerk said "the power was only off for 1 hour"...are you kidding me? Can YOU hold your breath for an hour? I can not stress this enough...Beware of the assisted living promises. Their staff are ill trained (ie NOT LPN's or RN's at all, regardless of what they tell you), and seem to lack basic common sense (I am an RN). The site is beautiful, but if it is actual care you require...run the other way.

reviewed on: 02/18/2017 by lindaI have a parent living here- since being sold it has gone downhill Aesthetically, it is a beautiful building- but there have been issues with plugs not working, poor heating cooling control and most recently with poor and inconsistent food quality. Since letting go of their chef ( maybe to save money) the food has been cold, inconsistent in quality and of poor presentation The activities are less frequent and there is very little evening programming options- often when you go to visit everything is locked up tight and closed down by 830. Most times after 630 residents are in their suites as there is nothing offered The new management has been most disappointing and the changes have devalued the packages offered In comparing to other venues in Calgary this one is now no longer worth the $4600 é month
