Mixed feelings due Covid

reviewed on: 04/21/2021 by anonymous

Over the past almost year, there have been some very friendly people. And there have been some people that, had they been my only impression of the facility, I wouldn't have put my loved one in it. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know which you're going to get. It could be a reflection that they're stressed out due to Covid. When we've gone in to visit, the person who's there to screen you doesn't always acknowledge you, or people have been standing there talking blocking the front desk, and the staff doesn't move those people to help you sign in. It's just frustrating when that's happening multiple times. The overall facility appears to be clean, but I haven't been able to go to the dining room or other public areas. They're cleaning the apartments, but my loved one's chair hasn't been dusted sometimes, and the bathroom wasn't always clean when I visited. There's nothing glaringly bad here, but there's also not been anything I've been able to say "Oh that's so wonderful" about. Sometimes there's a lag in communication. I'd like to see them have an out of office response on emails that directs you to call elsewhere if you need immediate assistance with an issue. It's been tough with a loved one who has some memory issues. We can't always rely on her comments 100% in determining if something did or didn't happen. And then there's a lag in the staff getting back to you when you try to clear things up. That's just frustrating. I know it's a tough situation for everyone to handle right now during Covid. . .

Recently bought by Emeritus

reviewed on: 08/12/2013 by Trish

It seems that Mt Laurel was recently (in the last two years) purchase by Emeritus, and this has not been a good thing. We had moved my father there on recommendation from a friend (and after touring that and other facilities, of course), but the comparison of her experience from a few years ago and today are extreme, and upsetting. While the staff are all very pleasant and cordial, the facility is clearly understaffed, and the staff that they do have is not well trained. The nursing director, who thankfully was recently let go, was absolutely useless. I believe her replacement is trying, but there has been only minimal improvement so far. Some of the nursing aides are very good, but some clearly do not care, and should be replaced. The food service is very spotty, meals are often served cold and takes up to an hour to serve. Overall, had we not been in a somewhat desperate situation (as I'm sure many families find themselves), we would have taken more time to do more research, and likely would have chosen another facility. Sadly, most around here are owned by Emeritus, and so are probably much the same.

Brookdale mountain laurel

reviewed on: 05/11/2016 by Doreen Wickman

My mother is pleased with her surroundings and the food! The workers are very good- very attentive. My only concern is that it is very difficult to get through to my mother on the main phone. She does not have a phone in her room, due to her dementia, so it is difficult.

Way to go Atria

reviewed on: 08/06/2019 by Debra Magliocco

I think that Atria is fabulous, my mother moved in first and loved it, then 2 months later my father moved in. The staff is wonderful, there are so many activities to participate in if your parent's are bored it's on them. Atria takes care of there residents, plans weekly trips. The apartments are great. I feel great knowing my parents are happy and safe.
