Assisted Living Rules and Regulations in Kentucky

It can be difficult to know where to start when beginning your search for assisted living for yourself or a loved one. Fortunately, many states offer insight into assisted living records to help consumers make an educated decision in senior care. Learn more about finding assisted living records in Kentucky.

Public Records and License Status

Kentucky offers consumers limited access to assisted living records. They do not offer information about inspections, complaints or violations available online and rank in the lowest 25% of states when it comes to accessibility and transparency.

To view a list of licensed communities visit the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

For more information about how to obtain records regarding senior communities contact Kentucky’s Office of Inspector General Open Records Requests or visit www.eldercare.gov to make contact with the appropriate ombudsman who can provide specific information pertaining to assisted living communities.

Another option for getting the records you need is to make a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. To do this, visit the National Freedom of Information Coalition where you will find sample request letters.

Violations and Resident Protection

While Kentucky does provide an updated list of licensed assisted living communities in the state, it does not provide the information in a searchable form. They also do not provide information regarding inspections, violations, complaints or survey results online.

Kentucky will provide information about special licenses for each facility as well as capacity information but does not provide payment information, pricing or contact information for facilities.

The state performs inspections every 24 months and has the ability to fine communities for non-compliance.
