Assisted Living Rules and Regulations in Maryland

Many states provide access to assisted living rules and regulations to help consumers make an educated choice when it comes to finding quality assisted living care for themselves or their loved ones. Access to these records can differ greatly from state to state. Learn more about how to find detailed information about assisted living communities in Maryland through state resources.

Public Records and License Status

Maryland offers an exceptional level of openness and accessibility when it comes to assisted living records. They are one of only two states to offer pricing information for licensed communities online. Their website is user friendly and aesthetically pleasing, making it easier for consumers to find quality care.

To find assisted living records, visit Maryland’s Consumer Guide to Long Term Care. Additional information may be found on the  Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Licensee Directory.

Violations and Resident Protection

Maryland provides a searchable list of licensed assisted living communities online, as well as information surrounding inspections, violations, complaints and survey results. All information appears to be updated within 90 days. They also include information about special licensing for care, capacity, contact information and even the pricing of each facility. They do not show the types of payment accepted (e.g. Medicaid, private pay) for each community.

Maryland conducts inspections every 15 months and the state has the ability to fine facilities for violations.
