Assisted Living Rules and Regulations in New York

It can be hard to know where to start your search for quality assisted living. Fortunately, state agencies can offer great insight into assisted living records and background information helping consumers to make an informed decision for senior care. However, public access to records depends on the state where the facility is located. Learn more about accessing senior living records in New York.

Public Records and License Status

New York provides some access to assisted living records but was marked down in accessibility rankings because they do not have a searchable assisted living database.

To learn more about the reports behind communities in New York, start with the state’s “Do Not Refer” list and avoid any communities on that list. You can also view New York’s Quarterly Survey Reports page to view inspection reports dating back to 2002. Additionally, New York’s Adult Care website has a directory of communities.

Violations and Resident Protection

New York does provide a list of licensed assisted living communities online but the information is not searchable and does not appear to be updated frequently. They post information about violations, inspections, survey results and complaints but, similar to the list of licensed communities, the information is not searchable and does not appear to be updated often.

New York provides information about special licensing for care and capacity information for facilities. They do not provide contact information for a facility, information regarding payment types or the pricing of a facility online.

New York conducts inspections every 18 months and can fine facilities.
