Assisted Living Rules and Regulations in Montana

It can be hard to know where to start when searching for quality assisted living care for yourself or a loved one. Thankfully, many state regulatory agencies make detailed information about potential communities available online. However, access to these records differ greatly in each state and some states offer more public access into assisted living records than others. Learn more about openness and accessibility of records in Montana.

Public Records and License Status

Montana offers very limited insight into assisted living records, making the only accessible list of licensed assisted living communities available in a PDF. They do not post information about inspections, survey results or complaints online.

For basic information, visit Montana’s Department of Public Health and Human Services. To find more information about a specific community,  contact a long-term care ombudsmen through www.eldercare.gov or file a Freedom of Information Act report.

Violations and Resident Protection

While Montana does provide a list of current licensed assisted living communities online, the information is not searchable and does not include information concerning inspections, survey results, complaints or violations. They do offer information about special licensing for care and capacity information as well as contact information for each community. They do not, however, give consumers information regarding payment types accepted at the facility or the price of each facility.

Montana performs inspections every 24 months and does not have the ability to fine facilities for non-compliance.
