    Rochester is a city and the county seat of Monroe County, south of Lake Ontario in the state of New York, in the United States. Throughout its history, Rochester has acquired several nicknames; it has been known as "the World's Image Center", "the Flour City", "the Flower City", and most recently as "the Photonics Capital of the world".
