Community Reviews
I really liked them a lot!
reviewed on: 02/14/2014 by Loved oneI really liked them a lot! They were a sister community with the one we chose. It's not in a very good part of town. They had a lot of amenities and they were clean and friendly.
Good tour, nice place.

The Laurels of HIghland Creek
reviewed on: 11/17/2014 by Patty HoskinsWe visited 5 assisted living facilities in our area before choosing The Laurels of Highland Creek. My parents chose The Laurels & what a blessing it has been. This very difficult transition was made as easy as possible thanks in large part to the welcoming attitude at the facility. The administrative staff was very accommodating & willing to work with my parents during this really difficult transition time. The staff has been very friendly & attentive in every way too! When comparing in home health care vs. assisted living, The Laurels is a great value for all the amenities offered. More importantly, for us, the socialization of the other residents was just as important as the physical care aspect when picking a facility. It's a community where they look after, encourage & share with each other. I feel like my parents are blessed beyond measure to be there!
Good; New General Manager and Head of Nursing are Poor.
reviewed on: 12/20/2016 by AnonymousMy loved one has been a resident for several years. Overall the Laurels is very nice. They redid the furniture in the living room this past year and it is not good. Obviously a designer from corporate did it to look good but it is not functional - way too big for almost all residents and doesn't take spills and other possible accidents into consideration with the fabric choices. They also only updated the main living room and dining room - not the resident rooms which REALLY NEED IT! They also hired a new general manager this past year. She (Jessica) is awful. Cold as a fish, very unfriendly, autocratic and doesn't listen well. She and the new head of nursing, Michelle (lots of recent turnover) are both uncaring and dictatorial - no partnership/discussion with them on issues - just declarations of decisions that were made without any input from family. They seem to be focused on moving residents to The Haven (memory care) so Five Star can make more $$ - makes one wonder if their compensation is based upon that. Food is very good and the caregivers - with the exception of a handful - are nice and very caring. My loved one has had some small items stolen from their room and the cleaning staff regularly opens up a kitchen drawer and eats from the candy in there - without invitation. This is an expensive private pay facility - they do a good job overall, but I expect more at this level - especially from the general manager and head of nursing. They are really bad. Numerous people have complained and Five Star turns a deaf ear. I am listing this review as anoyomous because I do not want repercussions on my parent. That's how much I don't trust Jessica and Michelle.
my experience
reviewed on: 06/17/2021 by JasonThe Community is kept neat and clean and the staff has been very helpful and friendly. The care has been good but we would like to see the food improve. I would recommend this community to others based on our experience.
