Assisted Living Programs

Licensing

    • Level 1: Low care
    • Level 2: Moderate care
    • Level 3: High care

 

Required Staff Training

    • Facility staff must complete initial and ongoing training that includes fire and life safety, infection control, basic food safety and emergency disaster plans.
    • CPR training must be provided to a sufficient number of staff so that one staff member at every shift is certified.

 

Overnight Staffing Laws

A facility should employ a sufficient number of staff so that the needs of residents can be met 24 hours a day.

Eviction Laws and Resident Protections

    • Residents may be evicted from a facility if the resident develops a need beyond what the facility can provide, if the resident requires treatment from Stage 3 or Stage 4 pressure sores, if the resident needs ventilator services, or if the resident acquires a communicable disease.
    • Maryland guarantees the rights of residents which include the right to privacy and the right to participate in group activities.

 

Service Charges

Residents must be made aware of extra service charges prior to being charged.

Inspections

Assisted living facilities must be open and ready for inspection at all times. Inspection report cards are public information.
