Person-centered care has been making its way to senior living communities in the U.S., enhancing both quality of life and care for seniors. Now, an assisted living community specializing in person-centered Alzheimer’s and dementia care is opening.Person-Centered Alzheimer's Assisted Living

Learn about this type of care and what it means for both Alzheimer’s and assisted living.

Person-Centered Alzheimer’s Assisted Living

According to the Wisconsin Wausau Daily Herald, a person-centered Alzheimer’s assisted living community recently opened in Weston, Wisconsin.

The article states that the newly built community, Tender Reflections Assisted Living, not only specializes in dementia care, but that:

“[The] approach is focused around person-centered care, meaning the approach and care of each resident is tailored to their personal wants, needs and limitations.”

Tender Reflections Assisted Living administrator, Michele Norrbom, highlights that the community in Weston has 34 rooms but is licensed to house more individuals, “meaning married couples can stay together if they choose, even if one partner doesn’t require dementia care,” she says.

We know that this is extremely important to families and that, in addition to a person-centered care approach, the lives of residents with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive issues are enhanced.

“Everything we do is about assisting the residents and their families; every single person on our staff is trained with the residents in mind,” Norrbom says. “It’s a place where you can feel comfortable living while still maintaining your personal dignity, respect and independence.”

The community also reportedly gives residents access to technology and recreational therapy like: flight, bicycling, fishing and hunting simulators.
